According to an IBM report, the Asia-Pacific region faced the most cyberattacks in 2022. Apart from that, cybersecurity trends observed in this region are similar to what you might see elsewhere, said Satyavathi Divadari, cloud CTO at OpenText Cybersecurity. What differs is the type of regulations.

Within the APAC region, countries such as Australia, Singapore and India have already established cybersecurity and privacy laws that are unique to those nations.

"From a global standpoint, you get a big-picture view. The global trends are broader in nature and you won't see it focused on a particular state or country," Divadari said.

The other big trend she observes is automation in the cloud. Divadari warned that using automation for rapid application development for the cloud has a downside.

"Every day, hundreds of applications are getting replicated through cloud automation. But how do you manage the security for that automation? One small error like a misconfiguration will actually get multiplied when you are automating in numbers," she said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Divadari also discusses:

  • How cybersecurity in the APAC regions compares with the rest of the world;
  • Managing security when automating in the cloud;
  • Cloud security trends.

Divadari, head of enterprise security architecture at OpenText, has spent more than 24 years in IT, ITES, telecom, strategic outsourcing and BPO - providing security services and solutions. She has certifications in cybersecurity, data privacy, enterprise architecture, fraud management, project management, total quality management, service management and auditing. Previously, she was chair at the Bangalore chapter of the Cloud Security Alliance.
