The Ever-Increasing Pressure to Develop Secure Code

Sonali Shah of Invicti Security Describes the Challenges Developers Face
Sonali Shah, chief product officer, Invicti Security

Individuals who work on developing software - even if not employed by a technology firm - are under more stress than ever before, says Sonali Shah, chief product officer at Invicti Security.

"Every company today is a software company, and developers are at the core of what the company is doing," she says. "Companies are using software for communicating with customers, employees and suppliers. And often it is the software that gives them their competitive edge."

But that means more applications are being developed and released more frequently - and often requiring updates on a daily basis, she says. "So you've got the pressure to innovate and also the pressure to deliver secure code - and that causes a lot of stress."

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2022, Shah also discusses:

  • How to make secure coding easier;
  • The importance of fixing security vulnerabilities early in the product life cycle;
  • Tips for achieving a positive shared culture between the security and development teams.

Shah has 25 years of experience in product management, marketing, corporate strategy, finance and M&A. She has spent 15 years working in cybersecurity with companies across the security space.
