Changes in application form factors, greater use of APIs and more adoption of multi-cloud architectures by clients has resulted in data residing in more places than ever before, says Imperva CEO Pam Murphy. Using a single pane of glass, she says, Imperva can help clients discover and identify who's touching both structured and unstructured data and what they're doing with it across public and private clouds (see: Akamai, Cloudflare, Imperva Top App & API Defense Gartner MQ).
"It's been our job to bring that all together for CISOs and the various teams around the company to have visibility into who's doing what with that data," she says, "because, at the end of the day, every hacker is trying to get to that data. That is the crown jewel. It's what's important. We're seeing success with it everywhere and particularly with the industries and companies that have the most sensitive data."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Murphy also discusses:
- The most significant differences between handling structured and unstructured data;
- How data protection needs differ for organizations in highly regulated industries;
- What sets Imperva's take on web application security apart from Akamai and Cloudflare.
Prior to becoming Imperva's CEO in January 2020, Murphy spent more than nine years as COO at Infor, the world's third-largest enterprise software company, providing software and technology solutions for specific industries and micro-verticals. Murphy previously held multiple leadership positions at Oracle, Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen. She has deep operational experience in running global organizations, having held a variety of roles in North America, Europe and APAC. Murphy is a board member of Rockwell Automation.
