Many businesses excel at access management in an environment where they have complete control over the devices and software but struggle to implement identity safeguards in an extended workforce setting that's more heterogeneous and offers fewer controls, says Okta President Sagnik Nandy. Firms must adjust their detection, protection and resolution policies to safeguard the extended workforce (see: Okta Clears Up Customer Identity Confusion as SMB Sales Dip).
"In a setup where everyone can bring in their own device and there's a proliferation of the types of operating systems and devices, you need a neutral solution," Nandy says. "Many of these users are not limited to a single device. They will be going back and forth across these devices, and you want to create as much consistency as you can create while being in this heterogeneous environment."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Nandy also discusses:
- The major differences between safeguarding employee and nonemployee identities;
- Okta's differentiators in the identity governance and privileged access markets;
- The impact on the identity market of Thoma Bravo purchasing SailPoint, Ping Identity and ForgeRock.
