Protecting Data From Cybercriminals - Wherever It Resides

Rubrik's Jason Pope on Third-Party Risks, Data Security Posture Management
Jason Pope, vice president of sales engineering, Rubrik

Third-party vulnerabilities, from suppliers to software supply chain flaws, have become prime targets for ransomware gangs and nation-state groups. And they've succeeded in compromising huge amounts of sensitive data. As cybersecurity teams build their incident response plans, the first question they usually ask is, "How can I find the data that's out there?"

CISOs are struggling to answer that question, said Jason Pope, vice president of sales engineering at Rubrik, and they need technology that gives them visibility to data across clouds and on-premises environments. That's why Rubrik recently added data security posture management technology to its security platform.

"At Rubrik, we're really focused on data security, and our view is that at some point, you're going to get breached, and we want to ensure that the data that you have is stored in such a way that you're able to recover it and it can't be affected by the bad guys. We want to give you all sorts of information about the data that you're storing," Pope said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the Fraud, Security and Risk Management Summit, Pope also discussed:

  • How to build incident response strategies;
  • Emerging technologies including AI and data security posture management;
  • Rubrik's approach to ensuring data privacy for its customers.

Pope has nearly 20 years of experience in the sales engineering field. Prior to Rubrik, he worked at Dell EMC for more than 11 years in several leadership roles. His expertise includes building high-performing teams and helping customers solve business challenges with emerging technologies.
